About

We have been building auction software since before most auctions were online.

Auction-Experts started in 1999, when the argument still had to be made that auctions belonged on the internet at all. We spent years making it.

Auction Experts is an auction software company based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, supplying online auction platforms to auction houses for twenty-seven years — 1999 to 2026. The company develops and operates the platform itself — the auction website, the bidding engine, the back-office auction management system and the mobile apps are all built in house, and hosted on Microsoft Azure.

Twenty-seven years

In the early 2000s we built and ran the technology behind Troostwijk and BVA, at the time the largest auction portals in Europe. That work taught us what auction traffic does under load, and what an auction house actually needs from a back office — lessons that are still in the platform.

Since then the offering has widened: art and antiques, wine and spirits, cars, machinery, real estate, liquidation, and products as varied as diamonds and broadcasting airtime. Twelve segments now, on one codebase.

What we are, precisely

We are a technology supplier. We do not run auctions, we do not take commission on your lots, and we do not compete with our customers for bidders. Our business is the platform underneath yours.

That distinction matters when you are choosing where to put your sales. A marketplace that also licenses software has an interest in your bidders. We do not.

The team

We are an international team of software developers based in Amsterdam, working from the A'DAM Toren on the northern bank of the IJ.

It's a great kick to see our customers successful and growing.

Orhan Teke · Directeur (DGA)

Orhan Teke leads the company. He has a background in information technology and hands-on software development in C and C++ at several established firms, and works at the point where the technology meets the business. What drew him to auctions was how much has to work at once for a single event to run: identity, catalogue, real-time bidding, video, settlement, all converging on one moment.

The principle we started with

Build the tools that let an auctioneer get the best possible result. Everything else — the segments, the APIs, the apps — followed from that, and it is still the test we apply when deciding what to build next.
